Danze Lisa Oil Brushed Copper
Danze Lisa Oil Brushed Copper

When I built the house I installed a fancy “Brezo” touch controlled faucet in the Kitchen on the island. It never really worked reliably as it needed to be grounded to the copper pipes but I have Pex and not copper :-)

Brezo Talo 64003 - Touch Faucet

After several years the Brezo handle started to leak onto the island and instead of replacing the cartridge and after assessing the replacement cost I decided to replace the whole unit. The replacement cost of the Brezo - Talo 64003 Smarttouch Single Handle Pull-Down Kitchen Faucet is US $1,200. However this product is now discontinued.

Canadian Tire had a sale on Danze units so I picked one up for 64% off - An Oil Rub Bronze Lisa for $79.98 - a far cry from the $1,500 I paid for the Brezo !!

The Issue

Installation went smoothly except when I tried the new unit, the spray head did not work??

Danze has a lifetime warranty on their products so I called customer service and they immediately shipped out a new spray head with check valve.

Update - Good News / Bad News

The good news is that the new sprayer head arrived in a couple days. The bad news is that the new replacement head also did not seem to work!? I installed the new head and it had the same issue so I called back the manufacturer and explained the situation and they said that they would test another new head and then send it out? If there is a known issue, they also will refund my money as well for my troubles.

Let’s see what comes in a couple more days…

Update - New Spray Head

So the new spray head arrived and I installed it and the faucet and it did not turn to spray…  Now I was suspicious and decided to take apart one of the heads. Once apart, I could see that the design does not utilize independent pistons and springs to engage/disengage and instead uses a “lever” approach.

It turned out that the issue is that this lever was so tight and the corners are catching so that it would not engage (at the top). Basically, with this understanding, I was able to use extreme force on the top of the switch to ‘engage’ the switch and the faucet would change to spray. By repeatedly pushing on the ‘switch’ I was able to wear down the rub point to make the faucet functional (basically freeing up the switch to turn on/off more freely). It appears that the service team is not aware of this ‘design feature’ and instead there are just sending out replacement heads with the same issue. The help desk agent who serviced my call was extremely helpful but had also mentioned that they had new head design (likely with this design feature making them a bit too tight) and that there was a lot of people calling with this same issue but they did not know what was causing their issue.

The Fix

If you have this issue you just need to push really hard at the top of the switch and you should be able to wear down the nylon/plastic and effectively ‘release’ the spray function. If you do this a few times and it will loosen up the switch on the spray head so that it is useable.
