In this article I describe some tips and tricks with Kodi - e.g. how to determine what hardware you Kodi box is running. I get this question a lot regarding the quality of of a Kodi box - especially with the number of China based devices that are on the market. This video shows where to look to get the specs on the box - CPU, GPU - version of DirectX? How do I add buffer memory to my box, etc.

What H/W Am I Running?

Here is video of how to determine your CPU, GPU, Version of DirectX

Up'ng Cache / Buffer Memory (Advanced Configuration)

You have lots of memory but my Kodi box doesn't buffer ahead enough. Since Kodi was designed to run with very little resources (e.g. memory), it does not dedicate a lot of memory. Running on systems with more memory and streaming higher resolution content, you likely will want to dedicate more memory to buffering. Unfortunately Kodi hides the file system for adding user configuration information. As such, this is a more advanced configuration change to your Kodi install. Here is a video on how  to add a "file source" to get to the userdata area for Kodi to dedicate more caching memory to allow your system to cache/buffer video to improve performance:

Stop Kodi Auto-Upgrading

How do I stop Kodi from automatically checking for new versions and updating. In some cases, you have an addon that does not yet work with new versions of Kodi. This was very problematic when Kodi jumped from 18.x to 19.x, changing the minimum requirement for Python (Kodi 19 moved to Python 3). This video shows why your kodi box keeps automatically updating and how to stop it:
